Dress Code
Uniform and appearance expectations for St. Benedict students.
Dress for Success
A student’s appearance, self-respect, and performance complement one another. Reasonable care and neatness in dress and appearance are required of all students. In the spirit of cooperation, fairness, and responsibility, parents and students are asked to observe the school dress code throughout the year.
Uniforms
All plaid uniform items are purchased directly through Schoolbelles. Navy or khaki dress slacks and shorts may be purchased from Schoolbelles or another retailer. Boys in grades K–8 wear a belt, and a plaid or navy tie on days the school community attends the Liturgy.
Girls: Grades K–4 wear a V-neck or tunic-style plaid jumper; grades 5–8 wear a plaid pleated skirt, kick-pleat skirt, wrap kilt, or skort. All girls may wear navy or khaki pleated-front slacks. Blouses are white (Peter Pan, pointed collar, oxford cloth, or turtleneck) and must be tucked in. White or navy knee, crew, or leotard socks are required.
Boys: Navy pleated or plain-front dress slacks, trousers, or walking shorts with a belt. Shirts are white oxford cloth, broadcloth, or turtleneck, tucked in at all times. Navy or black socks are required.
Jumpers, skirts, skorts, and walking shorts must be no more than two inches above the knee. Girls may wear slacks from November 1 through March 31; walking shorts may be worn by all students from the first day of school through September 30 and from May 1 to the last day of school (dates may change with the weather).
Shoes, Jewelry & Grooming
Closed dress shoes with safety (skid-resistant) soles are required — loafers, oxfords, dockers, or leather walking shoes. No tennis or athletic shoes, open-toed or open-heeled shoes, sandals, or boots. Jewelry should be modest: girls may wear stud earrings only (no more than two per ear). No makeup; clear nail polish only. Hair should be neat and well-groomed with no exaggerated styles.
Dress Code Policy
Students who disregard the dress code receive a reminder form for a first violation, a parent phone call for a second, and a request for a parent to bring appropriate clothing for a third. Each violation may result in the loss of a student privilege. The principal reserves the right to determine whether a student is in violation of the Saint Benedict School dress code.
